Preselect Application Instructions

In addition to the DICAS core application requirements, please provide the following items:

  • Personal Statement - an engaging and concise statement sharing your interests, career goals, and demonstrated alignment with our program and practice area(s).
    • In 1,200 words or less, tell us more about you by addressing the following in your statement:
      • Why are you interested in the dietetics profession?
      • What are your short- and long-term goals?
      • What are your reasons for applying to our program and the ED-TEP/MNT concentration?
      • What are your top strengths?
      • What areas have you identified as needing improvement?
      • What challenges do you anticipate encountering while in the U of M DI Program?
      • Identify what makes you a top candidate for our program’s Medical Nutrition Therapy / Eating Disorders concentration.
  • Three references - our preference: two from your academic setting (i.e., faculty members or instructors) and one from a work or volunteer supervisor, preferably a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.
    • However, if that combination is not feasible, use your best judgment to seek out references that can best highlight your demonstrated abilities and professional characteristics. Keep in mind, co-workers, fellow students, or family members are not appropriate to write professional letters of recommendation.
  • Follow DICAS guidelines for e-submitting your completed application by 11:59 PM Central Standard Time (CST) on January 16, 2023.
  • Pay the $50 (non-refundable) University of Minnesota DI application fee on or before January 16, 2023 via U of M DI Preselect Application Fee Payment Portal.
